Logo Redesign: Bridging Tradition and Transformation

The Challenge

Previous Logo

Eva’s Village, a well-established nonprofit organization, faced a significant branding challenge. Its existing logo appeared outdated and did not effectively convey the breadth and impact of its services. Unlike many local nonprofits that focus on one or two areas of support, Eva’s Village offers a comprehensive network of programs addressing hunger, homelessness, substance use disorders, and mental health challenges. The organization's unique model allows individuals to seamlessly access multiple forms of support within the same community—truly a “village of services.”

However, the previous logo’s text did not emphasize this defining characteristic, treating the concept of “village” as secondary. Additionally, some board members were hesitant to make changes, as the existing logo had been in place for decades and carried sentimental value.

The Approach

Understanding that a sudden rebrand might face resistance, we implemented a phased approach. As a transitional step, we introduced a commemorative 40th anniversary logo that would be used for one calendar year. This strategy was built on precedent—Eva’s had adopted a temporary logo for its 35th anniversary—while also gradually guiding the brand toward a modern, permanent identity.

The Solution

Maintaining Continuity

To ensure brand recognition and a seamless transition, key visual elements were retained:

  • The signature Eva’s purple (PMS 254) remained central to the color scheme.

  • The font was subtly refined, maintaining the familiar script style but incorporating slight modernizations, such as a refreshed "E" in "Eva’s."

  • The original silhouettes of the child and adult figures were preserved.

  • The concept of a supportive community was reinforced by incorporating multiple buildings to visually represent the village.

  • The logo’s hands, previously depicted as a single hand, were redesigned into two supporting hands, symbolizing the various forms of assistance available—whether from the community, faith, or Eva’s Village itself.

Key Enhancements

  • Streamlined Design: The logo was simplified from a four-color palette to a two-color scheme, improving versatility across various applications.

  • Emphasizing “Village”: The typography was adjusted to give “Village” equal prominence to “Eva’s,” reinforcing the organization’s holistic approach to care.

  • Incorporating Meaningful Messaging: The phrase “Where Hope Begins” was integrated into the design. This line, inspired by a long-time receptionist who consistently answered calls with the phrase, encapsulates the mission of Eva’s Village—offering individuals a fresh start and a path toward stability.

The Outcome

Today, the Eva’s Village logo reflects the professionalism, scope, and impact of this multifaceted nonprofit. The refreshed script font conveys approachability while maintaining credibility. The imagery—hands supporting individuals and a community—visually represents the organization’s commitment to uplifting those in need. Through this strategic redesign, the logo now authentically embodies the mission of Eva’s Village and its vital role in transforming lives.
