Be a Champion of Clarity: Why Clear Communication Builds Stronger Teams

I call myself a Champion of Clarity because I believe communication should be clear, transparent, and direct. Ambiguity is my nemesis.

In today’s fast-paced workplace, we’re flooded with information. Emails, meetings, presentations, reports—it never stops. The problem is, too much of that communication is cluttered, confusing, or vague. And when your message isn’t clear, you lose time, trust, and momentum.

Whether you’re speaking to customers, colleagues, or your leadership team, clarity isn’t just a “nice-to-have.” It’s the foundation of trust and the driver of action. That’s why I focus on communication that is concise, compelling, and easy to understand.

Why Clarity in Feedback Matters

One of the most common places where communication breaks down is in feedback. Many leaders default to general praise like, “Good job.” While the sentiment is positive, it doesn’t tell the recipient what specifically was valuable—or how to repeat that success.

Clarity in feedback is powerful. It not only reinforces strengths but also builds confidence, encourages growth, and ensures your message has real impact.

A Simple Framework for Clear Feedback

If you want to give feedback that lands, try using the Situation/Behavior/Impact (SBI) model:

  • Situation – Describe the context.

  • Behavior – Call out the specific action you observed.

  • Impact – Explain the result or value that action created.

Here’s what it looks like in practice:

“In your competitive analysis report, you included a side-by-side comparison of taglines and positioning statements. That made the information easy to scan and compare, which allowed the team to quickly grasp the insights without getting lost in too much detail.”

See the difference? Instead of vague praise, the SBI model provides clear recognition and a roadmap for future success.

The Ripple Effect of Clear Communication

When leaders and colleagues communicate with clarity, the ripple effects are powerful:

  • Teams perform better because they know exactly what’s expected.

  • Trust grows because people feel seen, valued, and understood.

  • Decisions move faster because there’s less confusion and second-guessing.

  • Customers connect more deeply with brands that communicate simply and directly.

Clarity sharpens focus, reduces wasted effort, and helps everyone move in the same direction.

Become a Champion of Clarity

If you want stronger results from your team, start with how you communicate. Strip away the fluff, ditch the vague language, and get specific.

Your words have power. When you use them with clarity, you don’t just exchange information—you inspire action.
